Welcome to the Helena Team
-Your Partners in Healing and Growth-

Clinical Social Work/Therapist, MSW, LCSW-C
Gianna Lishman
I am a trauma-informed child, teen, and family therapist who is deeply committed to empowering my clients with the knowledge and skills they need to heal wholeheartedly. I treat both the brain and the body and believe that all behavior is communication. Oftentimes, the challenging behaviors we see in ourselves and our children reflect underlying neurobiological processes related to trauma, unmet needs, and lagging social-emotional skills. As a therapist, it is an honor to walk alongside you on your path to healing.

In therapy I don't just help people walk through their struggles, I help them discover what those problems are, and where they came from. In the office, I use psychodynamic, existential, and relational approaches to understand both why folks want to change, and why they haven't been able to, fully honoring that reluctance in order to make therapy enduring and empowering, ages 3 through 93, for families, couples, and individuals.

Therapy is a lot like fishing—without patience, presence, and trust, nothing bites. As a therapist, I believe that building trust is the foundation for any meaningful therapeutic work. I bring over 25 years of experience in the human services field and have been practicing as a therapist since 2015. I specialize in family-centered therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, anxiety, trauma, and attachment-based approaches. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where individuals and families feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

What does it mean to hold space for someone else? As a clinically trained social worker my goal is to provide a space for you that is safe, supportive, and free from judgment. I help my clients explore and identify sources of stress with the goal of improving their well-being. I love working with pregnant and postpartum moms (and dads), helping people work through grief and bereavement, people who are coping with a life-changing medical condition, and people who are healing and recovering from depression, trauma, and anxiety. I have been practicing as a generalist social worker in the Helena community for 10 years.

Life can be incredibly confusing, difficult, and overwhelming. There are so many issues, both in and out of our control, that come up making life harder to handle. Negative thought patterns can change your thoughts, feelings, and actions. This can make relationships and situations more challenging. I’ve lived my whole life in a family of first responders, public servants, and military. There’s no conversation I’m afraid to broach, knowing the depth mental scars can reach. Moving forward with therapy and taking responsibility for your health is an amazing first step.
